Cassandra is a doctoral student at Pepperdine University, working on her dissertation, on African American Women Entrepeneurs. African American women are the fastest growing group of business owners and own 53% of women-owned businesses. Various women that Cassandra is researching includes, Maggie Walker (1867 – 1934), who was the first woman bank president in the U.S. She was the founder of St,Luke Penny Savings Bank in 1903. By 1929 the bank had absorbed all other banks in Richmond. It is now the oldest surviving African American bank in the U.S. and called, Consolidated Bank & Trust Company. “Take nickels and turn them into dollars.”http://tinyurl.com/232ytd7
